Most VR cricket bat tracking problems are not a broken game. They are a loose controller, a hidden camera, or a grip profile that was saved at the wrong angle.

Fix the hardware first. Then fix the room. Then touch iB Cricket settings. If you start by turning bowling speed up and down, you will hide the real fault.
This guide is for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3s. The same checks help on Quest 2, but do not put a Quest 2 bat on a newer headset and expect clean tracking.
Run this checklist first
Work from the top. Stop when the bat starts behaving.
- Is the right controller in the bat?
- Does the black tracking part face you in your stance?
- Does the controller rattle when you shake the handle?
- Are all straps on?
- Is the Guardian drawn for a swing, not a standing circle?
- Is the room lit well enough for the cameras?
- Did you save the iB Cricket grip profile against the bat shoulders?
- Are you using a bat made for Quest 3 / 3s, not Quest 2?
If the controller rattles, do not keep playing. Tracking cannot stay true on a moving mount.
What “bad tracking” usually looks like
People use one phrase for several faults. Separate them.
Wobble
The virtual bat shakes, rolls, or changes face while your hands feel still. This is almost always movement inside the handle.
Delayed shots
You swing on time, but the game shows the shot late. This can be tracking loss, a twisted profile, or bowling that is simply quicker than your current timing.
Bat facing the wrong way
The handle in your hands looks normal. The in-game bat is open, closed, upside down, or pointing off to the side.
The bat vanishes on the backswing
The headset loses sight of the controller, then finds it again after the shot. That is occlusion or a bad Guardian.
Treat those as different jobs. One setting change will not fix all four.
Fix wobble before anything else
Take the headset off.
- Undo the straps.
- Slide the right controller out.
- Put it back in so it sits flush.
- Lock it.
- Add the bat strap and the controller strap.
- Shake the handle hard.

A tight Quest 3 / 3s mount should not rattle. That is why we use the Meta Quest 3 and 3s VR Cricket Bat.
Point the tracking ring the right way
When you take stance, the black tracking part of the controller should face you. It sits at the back of the bat, not down the pitch.
If that ring points at the bowler, Quest 3 and 3s can lose the controller at the top of the backlift. The shot then appears late, or the blade jumps.
This is the first thing to check if tracking was fine on Quest 2 and fell apart after an upgrade.
Refit the controller. Then calibrate again. Do not only twist the in-game profile and hope.
Recalibrate the grip in iB Cricket
A locked mount is not enough. The game still needs the real handle and the virtual bat to match.
- Open iB Cricket.
- Go to Settings.
- Open Bat settings.
- Choose Adjust bat grip.
- Edit one profile.
- Line up the shoulders of the real bat with the virtual bat.
- Keep the bat still and press the trigger.
Do not only match the top of the handle. If the shoulders are off, every drive looks like an edge.
After you save, lift the headset and check from the side. If the virtual bat is still open or closed, edit the same profile. Do not start a match.

Delayed shots: tracking or timing?
Not every late shot is a tracking bug.
Ask this: did the virtual bat move with your hands, but the ball beat you? That is timing. Slow the bowling down in Practice Nets.
Ask this instead: did the virtual bat lag, freeze, or flip after you had already swung? That is tracking.
Useful tells:
- Tracking: the blade face changes after the swing starts
- Tracking: the bat looks fine until the backlift, then jumps
- Timing: the bat looks true, but you are early or late on pace
- Timing: blocks feel normal and only the slog looks late
Change one variable. First lock the controller. Then redraw the grip profile. Then change bowling speed.
Stop the headset losing the bat
Quest cameras need to see the controller. Help them.
- Do not cover the tracking ring with extra plastic, tape, or a thick glove trick
- Stand in the middle of the Guardian, not against a wall
- Use normal indoor light. Avoid a pitch-dark room and hard sunlight on one side
- Keep spare strap ends away from the cameras
- Do not swing so close to a sofa that the headset sees furniture instead of the controller
If the Guardian grid flashes at the top of every shot, the boundary is too small. Redraw it in Roomscale. Cricket needs follow-through space.
Room and Guardian faults that look like bat faults
Before you blame iB Cricket, check the space.
- A lamp at bat height
- A ceiling fan in the backlift
- A dark glossy TV that confuses the cameras
- A standing-only Guardian
- Someone walking through the boundary

Wrong-generation bats create “mystery” tracking issues
If you upgraded the headset and kept the old handle, start there.
A Quest 2 bat can accept a Quest 3 controller and still hide sensors or leave a gap. The game then looks random: fine for two balls, then suddenly late.
Do not keep tightening a lock made for a different controller. Buy the matching bat, then calibrate that one.
A 10-ball test that isolates the fault
Go to Practice Nets. Use medium pace. Do not slog.
- Leave two balls and watch the virtual bat. It should stay still.
- Block two balls. The face should not roll on its own.
- Play two straight pushes. Contact should match your hands.
- Take one slow backlift and stop. The bat should not vanish.
- Play two normal drives only if the first eight balls looked true.
If the bat fails on the leave, it is setup. If it only fails when you swing hard, check lock tightness, straps, and nearby walls.
What not to do
- Do not smash the next ball harder “to force tracking”
- Do not stack five setting changes at once
- Do not cover the controller in extra wraps
- Do not use Stationary Guardian for batting
- Do not keep a rattling mount in play
When the bat itself is the problem
After a clean refit, a correct orientation, a new grip profile, and a decent room, tracking should be boring.
If the controller still moves, or the mount still hides the ring, change the bat. That is the point of a Quest 3 / 3s specific handle.
